Sell Online Courses on Your Own Site: Lessons, Community, Live Events

Video 3 of 6 · 4:07 · captions included

Most people who teach online sell through a marketplace, answer questions in a chat group and run live sessions on a webinar tool. This film follows Maya, who teaches React, and Liam, one of her students, through an academy where the course, the classroom and the live sessions are one place on her own website.

Transcript

This is Maya. She teaches people to build with React. Three courses, fifty students, and a four point eight rating. For years her students belonged to a platform, not to her. And all of it lives on a website she controls, not on someone else's marketplace. A marketplace sells the course, and sets the rules. A chat group handles the questions. A webinar tool runs the live sessions. And an email list tries to hold it all together. The course is in one place, the conversation is in another, and the students do not really belong to either. Here is the same teaching business, run as one academy. Maya builds the course herself. Sections, lessons and quizzes, in the order she wants. Lessons can be text, video or both, and a quiz can close any section. A free preview lesson lets people try it before they buy. She sets the price for a single course, or offers everything she teaches as a monthly membership. This is Liam, one of her students. He is a little over halfway through. He picks up exactly where he stopped. Each lesson is short, and his progress is saved as he goes. Reminders and updates reach him in one place. A practice quiz checks what has stuck. He can take it as often as he likes. The course comes with its own private space. Only enrolled students get in. Thirty-six classmates, all working through the same lessons. It is where the class talks. Wins, questions, and the bug everyone hits in week three. Maya answers there too, so one answer helps the whole class. Liam is stuck on the next step, so he asks. A classmate will probably answer before Maya does. That is the point of a classroom. Every other Thursday, Maya runs live office hours. It is an event in the same academy, so Liam registers in one tap. No separate webinar signup, and no second account. His ticket is waiting on the event page. Twelve students will be there. And the academy is not an island. The same login opens the wider community: the feed, the forums and the job board. From Maya's side, this is a business she can actually see. How many enrolled, how many started, and how many finished. Every enrolment shows up here the moment it happens. She can see which students have gone quiet, and nudge them with one click. Who her students are, and what she has earned. When she wants to be paid, she asks for a payout. Students who finish leave with a certificate, and a rating that helps the next one decide. Her course used to be a product on someone else's shelf. No marketplace in the middle, and no algorithm deciding who gets to see it. The price is hers to set, and so is everything else. One login for her students. One dashboard for her. Now it is an academy with her name on it. The lessons, the classroom and the live sessions are one place, and the students are hers. Courses, community, events and membership, built by one team to work as one academy. On WordPress. On your site. See it live. The demo is one click away. BuddyNext. Your community, finally your own.
