No. Mighty runs your community and courses on its own infrastructure with no self-hosting path. BuddyNext flips that - it installs on your WordPress, so the members and content end up in a database you own and can back up or move.
No. BuddyNext takes no platform cut. When you charge for access with BuddyNext Pro, the only fee is your payment processor's (e.g. Stripe). Mighty Networks adds a per-transaction platform fee on top of processor fees on every plan, which scales with how much you earn.
BuddyNext is a community engine, not an LMS, so courses come from your choice of WordPress LMS (LearnDash, Tutor LMS, and others) running alongside it. That is more setup than Mighty's native courses, but it means you pick the LMS that fits you and you are not locked into one platform's course tooling.
For most growing communities over time, yes. Mighty is a recurring monthly subscription plus a per-sale fee with no free plan; BuddyNext has a complete free tier and an optional annual Pro license, with your own hosting as the main running cost. The trade-off is that you (or your host) maintain WordPress, where Mighty maintains everything for you.
For a non-technical creator, yes - Mighty leans on AI-assisted setup and has nothing to install. BuddyNext needs a WordPress site in place first. If WordPress is already part of your world the gap barely registers; if not, Mighty is quicker to launch and BuddyNext hands you ownership in exchange for the setup time.
