No. Circle runs entirely on its own infrastructure; there is no option to put it on your own server. BuddyNext takes the opposite approach - it is a WordPress plugin you install yourself, so the members and content sit in a database you control.
No. BuddyNext takes no platform cut. When you charge for access with BuddyNext Pro, the only fee is your own payment processor's (e.g. Stripe). Circle adds a per-transaction platform fee on top of processor fees, which scales with how much you earn.
For most growing communities, yes, over time. Circle is a recurring monthly subscription plus transaction fees with no free plan; BuddyNext has a complete free tier and an optional annual Pro license, with your own hosting as the main running cost. The trade-off is that you (or your host) maintain WordPress, where Circle maintains everything for you.
For a non-technical creator, yes - Circle is sign up, brand it, and invite, with nothing to install. BuddyNext assumes you have a WordPress site already; if you do, the gap is small, and if you do not, Circle is the faster route to live while BuddyNext trades that head start for ownership.
