How to choose who sees a post in BuddyNext, step by step. In the post box, click Posting to and pick Public, Followers, Connections or Only me before you post. A post written inside a space is for that space. The audience is checked every time the post is read: on a profile, in the feed, in search, on Explore and on the post's own page.

In this tutorial you will choose who sees a post in BuddyNext. Every post has its own audience, and the member who writes it decides. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. There is nothing to switch on. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open the audience menu. Pick an audience. Post inside a space. See it as a follower. Then see it as someone else. Step one. Open the audience menu. Sign in as a member, and open Activity. In the post box, beside the Post button, is a button that reads Posting to, and then the audience. It starts on the audience your site owner set as the default. Here that is Public. Click it, and the choices open. Step two. Pick an audience. Public is visible to everyone. That includes visitors who are not signed in, unless the owner has set the whole community to require login. Followers is for the people who follow you. If someone stops following you, they stop seeing the post. Connections is for your accepted connections. Only me keeps the post to yourself. Click one, then write and post as usual. Choose with care, because the form for editing a post has no audience menu. Step three. Post inside a space. Open a space you belong to. The post box here has no audience menu. A post written in a space is for that space. This space is open, so anyone can read it. In a private or secret space, only its members can. Step four. See it as a follower. This member follows Sara Lindqvist. On Sara's profile, one of her posts is a note for her followers. A small icon beside the time marks a post that is not public. It is the only sign, so look for it. This post is for followers only. Step five. See it as someone else. This second member does not follow Sara. On the same profile, the note is not there. Only her public posts are listed. A direct link does not get around it. The post's own page says, This post is private or unavailable. The same check runs in the feed, in search and on Explore, each time the post is read. One thing to know. Only me hides a post from other members. Site administrators can still see every post in the WordPress admin, under Engagement, then Activity. That is all five. The audience menu opened, an audience picked, a post inside a space explained, the post seen as a follower, and hidden from someone else. Your members can now share with the whole community, or with the few people they choose. Next in this series: React to a post.
