How to add a content warning to a post in BuddyNext, step by step. A content warning keeps a post published but covers it with a label, so members choose whether to look. Open Community Admin, then Moderation, click the three-dot button on a reported post, choose a type (NSFW, Spoilers, Violence or Strong language) and click Add warning. Readers see the post blurred behind the label with a Show anyway button. Open the same menu again to Update warning or Clear warning. Site administrators have the same control under BuddyNext, then Moderation, then Reports.

In this tutorial you will add a content warning to a post in BuddyNext. The post stays up, covered by a label that readers can click through. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. Content warnings are added by site administrators and community moderators. It takes about three minutes. There are six steps. Open the report. Choose the type of warning. Add the warning. See it as a member. Change or clear it. Then use the admin table. Step one. Open the report. A content warning is added from the moderation queue. On your site, open Settings, Community Admin, then Moderation. Here a member has reported a post that gives away the ending of a book. The post breaks no rule, so removing it would be too much. Click the three-dot button at the end of the row. In the menu, between Escalate and Warn author, is the content warning control. Step two. Choose the type of warning. The list in the menu holds four types. N S F W, for content that is not safe for work. Spoilers. Violence. And Strong language. Pick the one that fits. For this post, Spoilers. Step three. Add the warning. Beside the list is the Add warning button. The warning is applied the moment you click it. The post is not removed and its author is not warned or struck. It stays in the feed, covered. The control is offered on reports about posts. Step four. See it as a member. Sign in as a member and open the post. Its text is blurred, and a panel above it shows the label. Spoilers. Every reader sees the post this way, wherever it appears. The author sees it covered too. A reader who wants to read it clicks Show anyway. The cover lifts, for that reader, on this visit. Open the page again and it is back. Step five. Change or clear it. Back in the queue, open the More menu on the same report. The button now reads Update warning. To change the type, pick another one in the list, then click Update warning. Clear warning, beside it, takes the cover off for everyone. Both act the moment you click. Step six. Use the admin table. Site administrators have the same control in the WordPress admin, under BuddyNext, Moderation, Reports. Click the three-dot button on a post report. The menu holds the type list, Update warning, and Clear warning. That is all six. The report opened, the type chosen, the warning added, the covered post seen as a member, the warning changed or cleared, and the admin table found. You now have a middle way between leaving a post alone and taking it down. Next in this series: Reward members with points, badges and levels.
