In this tutorial you will create a poll in BuddyNext. A poll is a post with a question and a short list of answers that members vote on. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. Polls are on from the start. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open the poll tool. Write the question and options. Set an end time. Vote on a poll. Then switch polls on or off. Step one. Open the poll tool. Sign in as a member, and open Activity. Under the post box is a row of small buttons. The one with three bars is named Poll. Click it, and the option fields open under the post box. The cross beside them, Cancel poll, closes them again. Step two. Write the question and options. The question goes in the post box itself, where you would write any post. Then fill in the options. The first two are needed. Options three, four and five are marked optional, so a poll has two to five answers. Step three. Set an end time. Under the options is a field named Poll ends. It is optional. Pick a day and a time, and voting stops then. The results stay on the post. Leave it empty, and the poll stays open for as long as the post exists. Then click Post, and the poll goes to the feed like any other post. Step four. Vote on a poll. Each option shows its share of the votes, and the total is under the list, even before you vote. Click an option to vote. There is no second step. Not clicked here, but your choice is marked, and the numbers change at once. You have one vote on each poll. Click another option to move it. Click the option you chose to take your vote back. Step five. Switch polls on or off. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Platform, then Features, and find Polls. It is on by default. Switch it off, and the Poll button is removed from the post box for everyone. Polls already posted stay visible, but new votes on them are refused. That is all five. The poll tool opened, the question and options written, an end time set, a vote explained, and the Polls switch found. You can now ask your community a question, and get an answer you can count.
