How to handle a suspension appeal in BuddyNext, step by step. A suspended member opens their Account status page from the suspension notification or email, writes why the decision should be looked at again under Appeal this decision, and clicks Submit appeal. Administrators decide it under Community Admin, then Moderation, then Appeals, with the reason for the suspension and the member's message. Approve & lift suspension ends that suspension at once; Deny leaves it in place. The member is told the outcome either way. Site administrators have the same list under BuddyNext, then Moderation, then Appeals, where each row also takes an optional note that the member reads on their Account status page.

In this tutorial you will handle a suspension appeal in BuddyNext. An appeal is how a suspended member asks the moderation team to look again. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. Appeals need no setting. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Find the appeal box. Write the appeal. Open the Appeals tab. Approve or deny. Then use the admin table. Step one. Find the appeal box. This member has been suspended. Their notifications say so, and so does an email. Both open the Account status page. The page gives the reason, the day the suspension ends, and under them, Appeal this decision. Step two. Write the appeal. The member explains, in their own words, why the suspension was a mistake, or what has changed. Then they click Submit appeal. It goes to the moderation team only. Nobody else in the community sees it. A member can have one open appeal for each suspension. They stay suspended while they wait, and are told when it is decided. Step three. Open the Appeals tab. As an administrator, open Community Admin, then Moderation, and click Appeals. Administrators are notified when a new one arrives. Each appeal names the member and when they sent it. Suspended for shows the reason that was given. Under it is the member's message. Read it against the reason before you decide. Step four. Approve or deny. Approve and lift suspension asks you to confirm. Then the suspension that was appealed ends, and the member can post again at once. Deny asks first too. It closes the appeal, and leaves the suspension in place. Either way, the member gets a notification and an email with the decision. Step five. Use the admin table. Site administrators have the same appeals in the WordPress admin, under BuddyNext, Moderation, Appeals. Each row has the same two decisions, Approve and Deny, and they do the same thing. Before them is a box for an optional note. The member reads your note on their Account status page, with the decision. Every decision is kept in the moderation log. That is all five. The appeal box found, an appeal written, the Appeals tab opened, the appeal approved or denied, and the admin table found. Your members now have a fair way to be heard, and you have a clean way to undo a mistake. Next in this series: Set up content safeguards.
