In this tutorial you will reward members with points, badges and levels in BuddyNext. Members earn points for taking part, and their profile shows how far they have come. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin, and the WB Gamification plugin, which keeps the points. It takes about three minutes. There are six steps. Connect WB Gamification. Set what earns points. Set the levels. See points and level on a profile. See the badges. Then check your points history. Step one. Connect WB Gamification. In the WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Platform, then Add-ons. Find the Gamification card. When the WB Gamification plugin is installed and active, the card reads Connected. There is no other switch to turn on. Step two. Set what earns points. Open Gamification in the WordPress menu, then Points. Actions are grouped by plugin. Open the BuddyNext group. Each row is one action, with a switch and an amount. Create a post gives five points. Write a comment gives three. The other columns stop farming. Cooldown is the wait in seconds before the action counts again. Daily cap is the most times it counts in a day. Receive a reaction on your content gives two points, up to twenty times a day. Change any amount, then click Save Changes at the foot of the page. Step three. Set the levels. Open Levels, in the same Gamification menu. A level is a name, and the points a member needs to reach it. Five levels are set up for you. Newcomer at zero. Member at one hundred. Contributor at five hundred. Regular at fifteen hundred. Champion at five thousand. Rename a level or change its points, then click Save Levels. Members move up by themselves when they cross a line. Step four. See points and level on a profile. Sign in as a member and open your profile. Click the Achievements tab. Four tiles sum the member up. Points. All-time rank. Level. And Day streak, the run of days in a row they have been active. Step five. See the badges. Under the tiles is the Badges card. The count shows how many this member has earned, out of all there are. An earned badge shows its name and the date it was won. Badges are awarded by themselves when a member meets the rule. A badge still to earn has a lock, and a line saying how to earn it. Step six. Check your points history. Under the Achievements tab, click Points. Only you can see this page. It opens with your total. Points history lists each award, day by day, with what it was for and when. Further down, How to earn Points lists every action that pays, so a member always knows what to do next. That is all six. WB Gamification connected, the point amounts set, the levels set, points and level seen on a profile, the badges seen, and the points history checked. Your members now have a reason to come back, and a record of what they have given. Next in this series: Use the community leaderboard.
