In this tutorial you will search the community in BuddyNext. One search looks through members, posts, spaces, hashtags and media together. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. Search works from the start, and there is nothing to switch on. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open search. Read the results. Narrow by type. Set the date and sort order. Then search inside one space. Step one. Open search. Sign in as a member, and open Explore from the menu on the left. At the top of the page is a search box. Type a word or a name, and press Enter. The results page opens with everything that matched. Step two. Read the results. The line under the box counts everything that matched your word. The results are grouped by kind. Members come first, then posts. In each post, the word you searched for is highlighted. Further down are spaces, hashtags and media. Each group shows its first few matches, and See all opens the rest. You only get what you are allowed to see. A post in a private space you have not joined is left out, and so is anyone you have blocked. Step three. Narrow by type. Above the results is a row of tabs, each with a count. All, Members, Posts, Spaces, Hashtags and Media. Click Posts, and only posts are listed, up to twenty on a page. Add-on plugins that feed the search get a tab of their own. Here that is Discussion, Event, Jobs and Listings. Step four. Set the date and sort order. Beside the results is a card named Date. It starts on Any time. Pick Past week, Past month or Past year, to keep only what was posted or updated in that time. The count under the box drops to what is left. Under it, Sort by starts on Most relevant. Click Most recent, and the latest match moves to the top of the list. BuddyNext Pro can add saved searches and extra member filters to this column, for members whose plan includes them. Step five. Search inside one space. Open a space, and stay on its Feed tab. Under the tabs is a second search box, for the posts of this space only. Type a word and click Search. The feed is replaced by the posts that match, and Clear brings the feed back. The box is shown only to people who can read the space, so a private space keeps its posts to its members. That is all five. Search opened, the results read, narrowed by type, the date and sort order set, and one space searched on its own. Your members can now find a person, a post or a space in a few seconds. Next in this series: Use the Explore page.
