In this tutorial you will set up your community emails in BuddyNext. These are the emails members get when someone follows them, mentions them or invites them. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin, and a site that can send email. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Set who the emails come from. Find an email template. Rewrite the words. Preview and test it. Then check the Email Log. Step one. Set who the emails come from. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Notifications, then Email. From name is the name members see in their inbox. From address is the address they are sent from. Left empty, it uses your WordPress admin email. Reply-To address is optional. Fill it in, and replies go there instead. Below is Footer text, a line added to the bottom of every email. These settings touch only the emails BuddyNext sends. Step two. Find an email template. Open Email Templates. On the left is every email BuddyNext can send, each with a badge, Enabled or Disabled. They are in groups. Social, Spaces, Moderation, Auth, Digests and Onboarding. BuddyNext Pro adds a Membership group. To find one quickly, type in Filter templates. Then click an email to open it on the right. Step three. Rewrite the words. This is New follower, the email sent when someone follows a member. Subject line is the subject of the email. Preview text is the short line an inbox shows before the email is opened. Body is the message itself. Words in double braces are tokens. Each is replaced by a name or a link when the email is sent. Click a token under the body to insert it. Keep the unsubscribe token in. It gives the member a link that turns off this one kind of email, with no login needed. Step four. Preview and test it. Above the fields are three tabs. Click Preview to see the email as a member will. Your logo, your colour and your footer are wrapped around the words, the same on every email. At the top, Send test sends this email to your admin address, or to any address you type in. The switch beside it turns this one email off. Reset to default brings back the original words. And Save changes keeps your edit. Step five. Check the Email Log. Open Email Log. It lists the emails your community has sent, newest first, and it is read only. Each row shows the member, which email it was, its status, and when it went out. When a member says an email never arrived, search for their name here. The list beside it narrows the log to one kind of email. Sent means the email was handed to your site to deliver. Failed lists the ones that did not go, with the reason. That is all five. The sender set, a template found, its words rewritten, the email previewed and tested, and the Email Log checked. Every email from your community now looks and sounds like you. Next in this series: Set up email digests.
