How to use the sidebar cards in BuddyNext, step by step. Every community page has its own set of cards on the right: a greeting, Trending Topics, People to Follow and Your Spaces beside the feed; new members and a daily member spotlight on Members; featured, suggested, new and popular spaces on Spaces; the owner, members and top contributors inside a space; Profile Strength on your own profile; and a weekly summary on Notifications. The cards fill themselves from live activity, hide when they have nothing to show, and need no setup.

In this tutorial you will use the sidebar cards in BuddyNext. Every community page has its own set of cards on the right, built for that page. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. The cards fill themselves from live activity, so there is nothing to set up. It takes about three minutes. There are six steps. Read the feed sidebar. Open the directories. Look inside a space. Check a profile. Open Notifications. Then see it as a visitor. Step one. Read the feed sidebar. Sign in as a member, and open Activity. The column on the right holds cards picked for this page. First is a greeting, with your streak. That is how many days in a row you posted, commented or reacted. Trending Topics lists popular hashtags. Click one to open its feed. People to Follow suggests three members you do not follow yet. Your Spaces lists spaces you have joined. Step two. Open the directories. On Members, the sidebar lists the newest members, and a member spotlight that changes every day. On Spaces, it starts with the spaces the owner has featured. Then come Suggested for you, and Your spaces. Further down are New spaces and Popular spaces. A card with nothing to show hides itself, and a page never carries more than six. Step three. Look inside a space. A space has its own set. About this space, with its type and category. Then the owner, and a preview of the members. Last is Top contributors, the members who post the most in this space. Step four. Check a profile. On your own profile, the first card is Profile Strength. It shows how complete your profile is, and nobody else sees it. On another member's profile, Member of shows spaces that member belongs to. Step five. Open Notifications. Recent actors shows the people behind your latest notifications. Preferences is a shortcut to your notification settings. This week counts your notifications, how many you have read, new followers, and reactions and comments. Step six. See it as a visitor. Sign out, and open Spaces. Cards that need an account, such as Suggested for you and Your spaces, are left out. Public cards stay. New spaces and Popular spaces list open spaces only, so a private or secret space is not shown to a visitor here. That is all six. The feed sidebar read, the directories opened, a space, a profile and Notifications checked, and the visitor view seen. Your members now have a next step beside every page they open. Next in this series: Set up member login.
