In this tutorial you will block, mute or restrict a member in BuddyNext. These are tools each member uses for themselves, on someone they would rather not deal with. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. There is nothing for the site owner to switch on, and no approval step. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open the More menu. Mute or restrict. Block. Use the menu on a member card. Then undo it in Settings. Step one. Open the More menu. Sign in as a member, and open the profile of the other person. Beside Follow and Connect, click More. Below the two share items, the menu lists Mute, Restrict, Block and Report. Mute, Restrict and Block are the three tools. Report is for telling your moderators. Step two. Mute or restrict. Mute is the quiet one. Their posts leave your feeds, and their messages stop notifying you. They are not told. Restrict is about your posts. Their comments on your posts are hidden from everyone else, though you still see them. Their messages still arrive, but without a notification. They are not told either. Both work with one click, and the same menu item turns them off again. Step three. Block. Block is the strong one, so it asks first. Click Block in the same menu, and a box opens. It says what will happen. Their posts and replies are hidden from your feed. They cannot follow you or send you messages. And any follow or connection between you is removed. Click Block to confirm. A blocked person also cannot see your profile or your posts. Here we click Cancel, so nobody is blocked. Step four. Use the menu on a member card. You do not have to open a profile. On the Members page, each card has a button with three dots. It holds Mute, Block and Report. Restrict is on the profile only. Step five. Undo it in Settings. Open Settings, then Privacy, and scroll to Blocked, restricted and muted. Everyone you have acted on is listed here, in three groups. Each name has its own button. Unblock, Unrestrict, or Unmute. Click it, and that person is back to normal for you. One thing to know. Unblocking does not bring back the follow or the connection. Those were removed, so you would follow or connect again. That is all five. The More menu opened, mute and restrict explained, block shown, the card menu used, and the place to undo it found. Your members can now protect their own space, without waiting for a moderator. Next in this series: See who is online.
