In this tutorial you will let members follow each other in BuddyNext. Following is one way. A member follows someone to keep up with their posts, and the other person does not have to follow back. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. Following is on from the start. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Choose who can follow. Check the new follower notice. Follow a member. Limit who follows you. Then check followers and following. Step one. Choose who can follow. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Members, then Roles and Capabilities. Under Connections, find Follow members. It starts on All members, so every signed-in member can follow. Pick Moderators and up, Admins only, or Off, and ordinary members can no longer follow anyone. Step two. Check the new follower notice. Open BuddyNext, then Notifications. Under Default notification preferences, New follower is switched on. So a member is told when someone follows them. This is only the starting choice. Each member can change it in their own notification settings. Step three. Follow a member. Sign in as a member, and open another member's profile. Click Follow. There is nothing to wait for. You follow them at once. On a profile you already follow, the button reads Following. Click it to unfollow. The other member is not told when you unfollow. Posts from the people you follow are gathered under the Following tab of the Activity page. Step four. Limit who follows you. Each member has a say. As a member, open Settings, then Privacy, and find Who can follow me. It is Everyone or Nobody. On Nobody, other members see no Follow button on your profile. Private account is the middle way. With it on, a new follow arrives as a request the member can accept or decline. People who do not follow them cannot see their posts on their profile, in search, on Explore, in For you, or on hashtag pages. Switch the account back to public, and every waiting request is approved. Changes on this screen save as soon as they are made. Step five. Check followers and following. Every profile counts its followers, and the people it follows. Click Followers. The list opens under the Network tab, with Following and Connections beside it. Each person is a card, so you can follow from here too. One limit to know. A member can follow up to five thousand people. There is no limit on how many followers a member can have. That is all five. Who can follow chosen, the new follower notice checked, a member followed, your own followers limited, and the lists checked. Your members can now keep up with the people they care about. Next in this series: Let members connect with each other.
