In this tutorial you will add a moderator to a space in BuddyNext, and set who can post in it. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin, and a space you own. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Know the three roles. Make a member a moderator. Set who can post. Hand the space to someone else. Then check it as a moderator. Step one. Know the three roles. Open your space and click Members. A space has one Owner. The owner changes the settings, picks the moderators, and can hand the space over. A Moderator answers join requests, invites people, and removes or bans members. A Member takes part. They post, react and comment. Step two. Make a member a moderator. Open Settings, then Members, find the person, and click Make moderator. Only the owner can do this. There is no save button here. The change applies at once. Their badge reads Moderator, and the button becomes Remove moderator, which takes the role away again. Step three. Set who can post. Open the Permissions tab, and find Who can post. There are three choices. All members. Moderators and owner only. Or Owner only, for an announcements space. Members can still read, react and comment. Pick one, and click Save changes in the bar at the bottom. A person below the level you chose is refused when they try to post. Step four. Hand the space to someone else. A space always has an owner, so the owner cannot leave it. To step away, open the Danger zone tab and use Transfer ownership. Read the line under it first. You hand the space to another active member, and you become a regular member. You cannot undo that yourself. Step five. Check it as a moderator. Sign in as the moderator and open the space. They now have the Moderation tab, with the join requests. They can open Settings too, but the owner choices stay locked. Under Who can post, it says only the space owner can change it. That is all five. The three roles explained, a moderator made, who can post set, handing the space over covered, and the result checked as a moderator. Your space now has help, and the right people posting. Next in this series: Ban a member from a space.
