In this tutorial you will set how much a space notifies its members in BuddyNext, as the owner, and then as a member. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin, and a space you own. It takes about two minutes. There are four steps. Open the Notifications tab. Set the default for new members. Change it from the bell. Then review every space at once. Step one. Open the Notifications tab. Open your space, click Settings, then Notifications. It is near the end of the tab row. Step two. Set the default for new members. This one setting is the level a person starts on when they join this space. There are three levels. All activity notifies the member of each new post in the space. Mentions only and None send no new post notifications. A mention of the member still reaches them on every level. It starts on All activity. A member who joins hears about each new post in their bell, not by email, until they turn it down. It is a starting point, not a lock. Each member can change their own level. Pick a level, and click Save changes in the bar at the bottom. Step three. Change it from the bell. Now sign in as a member and open the space. The bell beside the Joined button sets how much this space notifies you. Click it, and the three levels appear, with your current one highlighted. Choose one and it applies to this space only. Step four. Review every space at once. Open Settings, then Notifications, and scroll down to Spaces you are in. Every space you belong to is listed with the same three levels. Pick one and it saves immediately. It is the same setting as the bell, so a change in one place shows in the other. That is all four. The Notifications tab opened, the default set, the bell used as a member, and every space reviewed at once. Each member now hears from your space as much as they want to, and no more. Next in this series: Organise spaces with categories.
