In this tutorial you will choose who can register on your BuddyNext community, and how they sign up. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open Registration and Login. Choose a registration mode. Set what sign-up asks for. Decide who can view. Then check the sign-up page. Step one. Open Registration and Login. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Members, then Registration and Login. Step two. Choose a registration mode. The first setting, Registration mode, controls who can create an account. There are four choices. Open, where anyone can register. Invite Only, which requires an invitation. Admin Approval, where you review each request. And Closed, where nobody can create an account. Step three. Set what sign-up asks for. The switches below the mode decide whether new members accept your terms, give their name, and choose their own username. Require email verification asks new members to confirm their address. Turn it on only if your site can send email. An account that never verifies is deleted after seven days, unless it has posted. Under it, Restricted is the recommended level. New members can look around, but cannot post or comment until they confirm. Then click Save changes, at the bottom of the page. Step four. Decide who can view. Registration controls who can join. A separate switch controls who can look. Open Privacy and Data, in the same Members section. With it on, every community page requires login, and logged-out visitors are sent to the login page. Leave it off for a public community. Step five. Check the sign-up page. Open your site in a private window, so you are logged out, and open the sign-up page, which is your site address followed by login, then signup. This site is in Open mode, so the form is here. It asks for an email, a name and a password, with the terms box, which appears once you have chosen a Terms of Service page. That is all five. Registration and Login opened, a mode chosen, the sign-up questions set, viewing decided, and the sign-up page checked. You now control who gets into your community, and how. Next in this series: Create your first space.
