In this tutorial you will create your first space in BuddyNext, so your members have somewhere to gather. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Check who can create spaces. Open the Spaces page. Fill in the form. Find it under My Spaces. Then check the admin list. Step one. Check who can create spaces. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Spaces, then Settings. Who can create spaces is set to Any member, or to Admins only. As the site owner you can always create one. Default visibility for new spaces sets whether a new space starts as Open, Private or Secret. Step two. Open the Spaces page. Spaces are created on your site, not in the admin. Open your site and go to Spaces. This is the directory your members browse. The Create a space button is at the top. Step three. Fill in the form. Click Create a space, and type a name. The slug, which is the web address of the space, is made from the name. Choose the type. Open, where anyone can join. Private, where people request to join. Or Secret, which is invite only and hidden from the directory. Pick a category, and add a short description. It is shown in the directory listing. Then click Create space. You become the owner and the first member. Step four. Find it under My Spaces. Back on the Spaces page, click My Spaces. A space you own has a Manage link. It opens the space settings, where you add an icon, a cover image and house rules. Step five. Check the admin list. Back in the admin, open BuddyNext, then Spaces, then Directory. Every space on the site is listed below, with its type, its member count and any join requests. A new space appears here as soon as it is created. That is all five. Who can create spaces checked, the Spaces page opened, the form filled in, the space found under My Spaces, and the admin list checked. Your community now has its first space.
