In this tutorial you will run the BuddyNext setup wizard, which takes a new install to a working community. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin, active on your site. It takes about three minutes. There are six steps. Open the setup wizard. Name and brand colour. Registration. Profile fields and spaces. Pages and add-ons. Then finish. Step one. Open the setup wizard. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Get Started, then Home, and click Run guided setup. On a new install the wizard opens by itself. You can run it again at any time, and it never creates anything twice. Step two. Name and brand colour. The wizard has seven screens, listed across the top. On the first, type the name of your community. Then pick one brand colour. It is used for buttons, links and focus states. Continue saves the screen and moves on. Skip this step moves on without changing anything. Step three. Registration. Choose who can join: Open registration, Invite only, Admin approval, or Closed. There are two switches below. Require email verification: turn it on only if your site can send email, or new members cannot get in. And Private community, which makes people log in before they can see anything. Step four. Profile fields and spaces. The next screen lists the profile groups your members will fill in. They are already set up, so there is nothing to choose. On the Spaces screen, type starter categories for your spaces, separated by commas. Clear the field if you would rather add them later. Step five. Pages and add-ons. The wizard creates the Community Feed, Members and Spaces pages. A page that already exists is marked Created and left alone. On Addons, tick only the companion plugins you want. Any that are already active need nothing from you. Step six. Finish. The last screen confirms that your community is ready. Go to dashboard returns you to the admin. View your community opens the site your members will see. That is all six. The wizard opened, a name and brand colour, registration, profile fields and spaces, pages and add-ons, and the finish screen. Every choice can be changed later in the admin. Your community is set up and ready for its first members. Next in this series: Turn features on and off.
