In this tutorial you will turn BuddyNext features on and off, so your community only has what it needs. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open Features. Find a feature. Switch it and save. Check Direct messages. Then see it as a member. Step one. Open Features. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Platform, then Features. Every feature has one switch, and it is on this screen. Core features, such as the activity feed and member profiles, are always on. Step two. Find a feature. Type its name in the search box. Here, polls. The row says what the feature does, that it is on by default, and what it requires. Step three. Switch it and save. The switch is on the right of the row. Click it to turn the feature off, or back on. Nothing changes on your site until you click Save changes, at the bottom of the page. Step four. Check Direct messages. This row is different. Messaging is run by the WPMediaVerse plugin, so the row shows whether it is on, and links to the switch there. Without that plugin, the row says it is required. With BuddyNext Pro active, the Pro features are in the same list, under headings such as Monetization and Campaigns. Step five. See it as a member. Now sign in as a member and open the feed. Polls is on, so the Poll button is in the post box. Switch Polls off in Features, and members can no longer attach one. That is all five. Features opened, a feature found, switched and saved, Direct messages checked, and the result seen as a member. Your community now runs only the features you chose. Next in this series: Set your community's name, logo and colours.
