How to comment on a post in BuddyNext, step by step. Open a post's thread, type in the comment box and send. Reply under any comment, up to five levels deep. Edit or delete your own comment: a deleted comment keeps its place so its replies stay. Site administrators, and the owner and moderators of a space, can pin one comment to the top of a thread. The owner switches comments on or off under BuddyNext, then Platform, then Features, and sets a rate limit under BuddyNext, then Automation, then Controls.

In this tutorial you will comment on a post in BuddyNext. You will also reply inside a thread, and see what the site owner controls. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. Comments are on from the start. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Write a comment. Reply to a comment. Edit or delete your comment. Pin a comment. Then set the limits. Step one. Write a comment. Sign in as a member, and open a post. In the feed, click Comment under a post to open its thread. On the post's own page, as here, the thread is already open. Type in the box that reads Write a comment, then click the round send button beside it. Your comment joins the thread at once. If the owner has switched on Require email verification, a new member confirms their address before they can comment. Step two. Reply to a comment. Under every comment is a Reply button. Click it, and a box opens right under that comment. A reply sits indented under the comment it answers. Here the author has replied to this member's question. Replies can go five levels deep. Past that, a reply is refused. Step three. Edit or delete your comment. Your own comments have two more buttons. Edit lets you change the words, and marks the comment as edited. Delete asks you to confirm, because it cannot be undone. The words go, but the comment keeps its place, so the replies under it stay. On someone else's comment you see Report instead. By default, community moderators and admins can also delete your comment, and admins can edit it. Step four. Pin a comment. This is for the people who run the place. Signed in as a site administrator, each first-level comment has a Pin button. Pin holds one comment at the top of the thread, with a Pinned label. It is not clicked here. Pinning another comment replaces the first. A reply cannot be pinned. In a space, the owner and moderators of that space can pin too. Step five. Set the limits. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Platform, then Features. Comments is on by default. Off removes the comment area from every post. To slow down flooding, open Automation, then Controls. Tick Rate-limit commenting, and set how many comments one member may post in a minute. A new site starts at thirty a minute. On this site the box is not ticked, so there is no limit. That is all five. A comment written, a reply shown, your own comment edited or deleted, a comment pinned, and the limits set. Your members can now talk under every post, and you decide how fast. Next in this series: Create a poll.
