How to Get Members to Finish Their Profile in BuddyNext

How BuddyNext gets members to finish their profile, step by step. The Profile Strength card on a member's own profile shows a ring and a list: one line for each profile section, plus a profile photo and a cover image. A section is done when one field in it is filled in. The list follows the groups under BuddyNext, then Members, then Directory, then Profile Fields.

In this tutorial you will see how BuddyNext gets members to finish their profile, with the Profile Strength card, and how you shape what it asks for. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. There is nothing to turn on. It takes about two minutes. There are four steps. See Profile Strength as a member. Follow a task. Shape the list from Profile Fields. Then see a finished profile. Step one. See Profile Strength as a member. Sign in as a member and open Profile. On a computer screen, the Profile Strength card sits at the top of the sidebar. The ring is the share of the list that is done. This member is on twenty five, with six to go. The list has one line for each section of the profile, plus a profile photo and a cover image. Only the member sees this card. Other people who open the profile do not. Step two. Follow a task. Each line that is not done has an Add link. Click it, and Edit Profile opens. A section counts as done as soon as one field in it is filled in. So a member does not have to answer everything to tick a line. Fill in a field, and click Save changes in the bar at the bottom. The ring moves up the next time the profile loads. Step three. Shape the list from Profile Fields. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Members, then Directory, then Profile Fields. Each group here is one line on the Profile Strength list, under the name you give it. Add a group, and members get one more line. Delete a group, and its line goes. So keep to the sections you want every member to fill. A long list is harder to finish. Step four. See a finished profile. Sign in as a member who has filled in every section. The ring reads one hundred, and the card says All set. The list is gone, because nothing is left to do. On a phone, the same number shows as a small chip on the profile instead of this card. That is all four. Profile Strength seen as a member, a task followed, the list shaped from Profile Fields, and a finished profile seen. Every member now knows what is left to fill in.
