In this tutorial you will manage your account settings in BuddyNext. This is where a member changes how they sign in: the handle, the email address and the password. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin. Every member has this page. It takes about three minutes. There are six steps. Open your account settings. Change your handle. Change your email address. Change your password. Sign out of other devices. Then check your account status. Step one. Open your account settings. Sign in as a member. In the menu on the left, under You, click Settings. Settings opens on the Account tab. Everything in this tutorial is on it. Step two. Change your handle. Your handle is the end of your profile address, and the name people type to mention you. Type a new one. It can be three to thirty characters: letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores. If another member has it, the field says Taken. When it is free, a check mark shows. Then click Update handle. Your old handle keeps working, and nobody else can take it. Step three. Change your email address. On the Email address row, click Change. A field opens for the new address. Type it, and click Send verification email. A message with a link goes to the new address. Nothing changes until you open that link. Until then your old address stays in use, and the new one is listed on this row as pending. Step four. Change your password. On the Password row, click Change. Enter your current password, then the new one twice. The new password needs at least eight characters, and it must differ from the old one. Then click Update password. Changing your password signs you out on every other device. You stay signed in on this one. Step five. Sign out of other devices. At the foot of the Account tab is Active sessions, with a button, Sign out everywhere. It acts as soon as you click it. Every other browser and device has to sign in again. Use it after you lose a phone, or sign in on a shared computer. For a second lock on the account, the Two-factor authentication row is on this tab too. Step six. Check your account status. On the Account status row, click View account status. This page shows your standing in the community. A suspension, a strike or a warning would be listed here. Only you can see it. That is all six. Account settings opened, the handle, the email address and the password changed, other devices signed out, and your account status checked. Your members can now keep their own account safe, without asking you. Next in this series: Manage privacy and member data.
