In this tutorial you will lock a post to paying members in BuddyNext, so one post can be worth paying for. You need BuddyNext Pro, with memberships turned on and at least one membership plan. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Choose the plans that unlock posts. Post as Members only. Set how much is previewed. Check the button label. Then check it as a member. Step one. Choose the plans that unlock posts. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Monetization, then Plans. This is a BuddyNext Pro screen. Click Edit on a paid plan. Scroll to Entitlements, and find View Protected Content. Switch it on, and members on this plan read every members-only post in full. Leave it off on your free plan, or the lock holds nobody back. Then click Save changes. Step two. Post as Members only. On your site, open Activity, write your post, and click Posting to. Choose Members only. Non-members see a teaser and a join prompt. Then click Post. Only a site admin has this choice here. Inside a space, the owner and moderators get a lock button in the post box instead. Ordinary members cannot lock their own posts. Step three. Set how much is previewed. Back in the admin, open BuddyNext, then Engagement, then Social, and find Members-only teaser length. It is the share of a locked post that a non-member can read. It starts at twenty five percent, and it cannot go above ninety five. A post under forty words shows no preview, only the lock notice. Step four. Check the button label. Open BuddyNext, then Monetization, then Paywall. Under Global defaults, Button label is the text on the join button of a locked post. Left empty, it reads Become a Member. On a locked post the button leads to your membership plans page, and it is hidden when no plan is on sale. Step five. Check it as a member. Sign in as a member who is not on that plan, and open the post. The first lines are there, then the text stops. Below it, a notice says this post is for members, with the Become a Member button. Pictures and links on a locked post are held back too. A member on the plan, the author, and site admins see the whole post. One thing to know. Without BuddyNext Pro, Members only means signed-in members, not paying ones. That is all five. The plans chosen, a post locked, the preview length set, the button label checked, and the result checked as a member. Your best posts can now be a reason to join a plan. Next in this series: Schedule a post for later.
