Transcript

In this tutorial you will write the first post in your BuddyNext community, and pin an announcement to the top of the feed. You need BuddyNext, the free plugin, and an administrator account. It takes about three minutes. There are five steps. Open the post box. Choose who sees it. Post it as an announcement. Manage announcements. Then see it as a member. Step one. Open the post box. Posts are written on your site, not in the admin. Open your site and go to Activity. The post box is at the top of the feed. Click in it and write your first post. A welcome, and what the community is for, is a good start. Step two. Choose who sees it. Click Posting to. Public is visible to everyone. The other choices are Followers, Connections, Members only and Only me. For an ordinary post, click Post, and it is published to the feed. Step three. Post it as an announcement. For a notice that everyone must see, click the megaphone button, Post as announcement, before you post. An optional Auto-expire date appears. Leave it empty, and the announcement stays until you end it. When you click Post, it is pinned to the top of every member's home feed, until each member dismisses it. Step four. Manage announcements. In your WordPress admin, open BuddyNext, then Engagement, then Announcements. Every announcement is listed with its audience and its status. End now takes the pin off and leaves the post in the feed as an ordinary post. Step five. See it as a member. Now sign in as a member. This announcement was posted in the Community News space, so it is pinned at the top of that space. It carries the Announcement label, and it sits above every other post. That is all five. The post box opened, the audience chosen, the post marked as an announcement, announcements managed in the admin, and the pinned notice seen as a member. Your community now has its first words, and a notice at the top. Next in this series: Invite your first members.
