Recipe: Reward and Retain Members
Free & ProGoal: give members reasons to come back - points, badges, leaderboards, and recognition that makes contribution visible. You'll need: BuddyNext Free with the WB Gamification companion; Pro adds member labels. Time: about 20 minutes.
A community keeps people when contribution feels seen. This recipe turns on the recognition layer and points it at the behaviour you want more of.
Before you start
- Install the free WB Gamification companion plugin, which powers points, badges, and leaderboards. Full guide: Gamification.
- Decide what you want to reward - posting, helpful replies, inviting others, showing up daily.
Steps
Turn on points and badges. Award points for the actions that matter and let badges mark milestones, so early contributors feel it immediately. Full guide: Gamification.
Show the leaderboard. Surface top contributors so recognition is public and members have something to climb. Full guide: Leaderboard.
Label your standout members (Pro). Give badges or titles - Founder, Expert, Verified - that appear next to a member's name across the community. Full guide: Member Labels. For a verified-identity badge specifically, see Email Verification.
Keep the feed lively (Pro). Schedule posts and prompts ahead so the community never looks empty on a quiet day. Full guide: Scheduled Posts.
What your members see
Members earn points and badges as they take part, see where they rank on the leaderboard, and carry any labels you assign next to their name on posts and profiles. Recognition shows up where other people will notice it, which is the point.
